Reading Writers featuring Barnabas Piper

Reading Writers: Barnabas Piper, Curiosity and Holden Caulfield

Reading Writers featuring Barnabas Piper

Welcome to the third episode of Reading Writers. Each week, I’ll be speaking with Christian authors and writers about what they’re writing, but also about what they’re reading—and how reading widely can help us grow as believers, as creators and disciple-makers.

What you’ll hear in this episode

This week, I’m joined by Barnabas Piper. Barnabas works for LifeWay Christian Resources as the Brand Manager of LifeWay Leadership and Ministry Grid. He is the author of several books including The Pastor’s Kid and Help My Unbelief. And he is the co-host of The Happy Rant Podcast and Five Leadership Questions. In our discussion, we talk about:

  • His forthcoming book, The Curious Christian;
  • How reading feeds his curiosity;
  • Why it’s okay to read more than one book at a time and to not finish horrible books;
  • My irrational hatred of The Catcher in the Rye; and
  • Whether or not we should read morally reprehensible books.

Books mentioned in this episode

Note: as Barnabas and I talk about in this episode, not all of these books are ones we’d recommend in part or in whole. Use wisdom and discretion, y’all.

Who will be on the next episode of Reading Writers?

Next week, I’ll be joined by Joey Shaw to discuss his new book, All Authority, how reading and missions intersect, and how apps like Evernote can help you process what you’re reading.
